Step 1: Measure the height of the Barrel from the Ground
Now, when you want to start the DIY. Check the height you want the barrel to be. You don’t want to put in so much effort and then be unhappy about the height. Use a measuring tape to measure how much high you want the barrel to be. Ensure it is at an ideal comfortable position, and you don’t have to lean on it.
Step 2: Clean the Barrel
You don’t want a harmful barrel to work with! So now comes the most crucial step. Clean the barrel. One tip that I can give you is choosing a barrel that contained honey or food. But if you have a barrel that contained oil or fuel, it is better to stay away from that one (For safety purposes).
Clean the barrel well. Wash it out, let it dry in the sun for 2 days, and sanitize it completely.
Use an Angle Grinder to cut the opening of the barrel.
Step 3: Legs for BBQ Barrel
Once you have done step 2, now work on the height and the legs of the BBQ Barrel. For this, you can use any old legs available at your house or can purchase online. You can get it for a good price.
Use two fence posts for the barrel’s horizontal length to keep it sturdy and use the other four fence post for the height. Drill some holes in both ends of the barrel and attach the legs to the barrel. Keep it balanced and sturdy. Use more screws/hinges if required.
Step 4: Secure the Lid
Use stainless steel brackets and hinges to secure the lid and grill in place. Test it a few times to fix it before BBQ. Light up your barrel to get rid of old paint and chemicals.
Step 5: Final Touches
Use a dowel to add a handle to the Barrel. Add air vents and temperature gauge. Add a heat resistant paint to add a style and look to your bbq barrel. I like black or grey for this purpose. You can choose any color you want.
